Christmas Miracle: #NeverTrumpers Praise POTUS As Year One Comes To Triumphant Finish.

As Year one of Donald Trump’s presidency comes to a triumphant finish with the passage of historic tax reform, even his staunchest critics concede he’s “winning,” writes Peter Hasson of the Daily Caller.

Daily Caller reports:

In a column this week titled, “Give Trump Credit Where It’s Due,” National Review editor Rich Lowry conceded that Trump has defied expectations as president. […]

“It’s hard to see how a conventional Republican president would have done much better, except if he had managed to get Obamacare repealed, which was always going to be a dicey proposition given the narrow Republican majority in the Senate,” Lowry wrote.

UC Berkeley professor Steven F. Hayward was among the conservatives featured in National Review’s “Against Trump” issue. But his stance on Trump appears to have softened since then. […]

“While the Congress controlled by his adopted party remains gridlocked, Trump is rolling back regulations and a number of the Obama administration’s most controversial achievements, including the internal structure of Obamacare and the Clean Power Plan. His foreign policy resets look increasingly sure-footed. His judicial nominees are uniformly conservative,” Hayward continued.

“It is inconceivable that any of the other leading Republican candidates from the 2016 cycle would have governed as boldly as Trump has.” […]

Republican strategist Liz Mair led an anti-Trump super PAC, Make America Awesome, during the campaign. Mair’s group was behind the ad that attacked Trump with a naked picture of his wife, leading Trump to retweet a disparaging meme about Ted Cruz’s wife.

Most recently, intellectually dishonest criticism of the President has caused fissures within the NeverTrump non-movement. National Review‘s Charles Cooke penned a brutal takedown of Washington Post‘s Jennifer Rubin after the conservative blogger criticized President Trump’s decision to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem (“In 2010, she praised Marco Rubio for arguing that “Jerusalem is Israel’s capital, as the U.S. Congress has repeatedly recognized” and lauded the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 as the concrete on which Republicans should walk,” pointed out Cooke).

Cooke branded Rubin a “Trump-obsessed zealots who add nothing to our discourse.”

Rubin refused to respond to the piece, claiming doing so would be ‘punching down.’

It will be most interesting to see if more of such spats break out as Trump continues to win.

This week, Canadian financier Conrad Black tweeted something The Gateway Pundit knew would occur from the moment the president stormed the political scene.

“Trump was a joke until nominated, unelectable until elected, incompetent until he succeeded, and about to be impeached until he debunked the collusion nonsense; he has had a very successful year. His enemies have not.”
