Broncos jab Chiefs’ Travis Kelce-Taylor Swift buzz in perfect way after stunning win

The Broncos kept cruising against the Chiefs and shook off a 16-game losing streak to their AFC West rivals, and they made sure to celebrate appropriately.

Taylor Swift wasn’t in attendance at love interest Travis Kelce’s game Sunday, and Empower Field at Mile High blasted the singer’s “Shake It Off” song on the speakers for fans following Denver’s 24-9 victory.

Multiple videos from the stadium captured the scene as players shook hands and fireworks rose from behind the scoreboard, with the venue’s music selection mirroring Globe Life Field on Friday when Kelce attended Game 1 of the World Series and danced to the song.

Swift, who’d attended four of the Chiefs’ previous five games and watched four victories, wasn’t expected to make the trip to Denver as she prepared for her “Eras Tour” to resume Nov. 9 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Previously, she’d attended Kelce’s games against the Chargers, Broncos, Jets and Bears, and the 34-year-old tight end caught 34 passes for an average of 108 yards per game across those four victories.

Kelce’s statline from Sunday’s loss — six catches for 58 yards — only added support to CBS’ graphic from last weekend depicting the correlation between his best 2023 performances and Swift’s presence.

“How could I not be aware of this?” Kelce joked to his brother, and Eagles center, Jason on their weekly “New Heights” podcast episode.

The Kelce-Swift relationship, which has become one of the NFL’s most popular storylines through the first eight weeks, has included other recent developments such as Swift’s handshake with Patrick Mahomes’ wife, Brittany, as well as an Entertainment Tonight report revealing that Kelce plans to travel internationally for her tour — which could include the Nov. 9 show, since it coincides with Kansas City’s bye week.

The Chiefs will travel to Germany next weekend for a matchup against the Dolphins leading into that bye, and they’ll aim to avoid consecutive losses for the first time since Weeks 2 and 3 in 2021.

During Sunday’s games against the Broncos, Kansas City’s offense struggled to generate any rhythm, although The Athletic reported that Mahomes received IV treatment pregame while dealing with an illness.

The Chiefs didn’t score a touchdown — and didn’t score at all in the second half — and fell to 6-2 this season, while Russell Wilson threw for 114 yards and three touchdowns to spark the Broncos’ third victory.
