23-year-old scooter rider fatally mowed down by female driver in Bronx: police

A 23-year-old man riding a scooter was intentionally struck by a female driver in the Bronx on Saturday afternoon, law enforcement sources said.

Robert Jimenez, of the Bronx, was fatally hit near Fox Street and Intervale Avenue in the South Bronx around 2:22 p.m., cops said.

A 28-year-old female in a Honda Civic driving southbound on Fox Street hit the man while traveling in the same direction, according to police.

Photos from the scene showed a red vehicle with its front violently smashed in and the front right tire turned on its side.

The man on the scooter was killed and the female driver was taken into custody.

Nearby sat the wreckage of the scooter.

Jimenez was taken to Lincoln Hospital, where he was declared dead. 

The driver, who was taken into custody, suffered pelvic injuries and was taken to the same facility, sources said.

Detectives are waiting until she is treated to question her. Her connection to Jimenez or why she intentionally mowed him down is unclear, the sources added.

Charges were still pending around 11 p.m. Saturday night, cops said.
