Jets Week 14 report card: Where has this been?

Grading the Jets’ 30-6 win over the Texans on Sunday:

Offense

Where has this been?

The offense exploded in the second half on Sunday, scoring 30 points after going scoreless in the first half.

The Jets put up 347 total yards and went 6 of 15 on third down (40 percent).

QB Zach Wilson (27 of 36, 301 yards, 2 TDs, 1 fumble, 117.9 QB rating) played the best game of his career and quieted his critics for at least one week. RB Breece Hall (10 rushes, 40 yards, 8 catches, 86 yards, 1 TD) was a weapon for Wilson all day.

WR Garrett Wilson (9 catches, 108 yards) made some terrific catches and kept the offense moving.

Defense

The defense nearly pitched a shutout.

The Texans managed just 135 total yards, 54 passing and went 1-for-12 (8.3 percent) on third down.

QB C.J. Stroud (10 of 23, 91 yards, 54.8 rating) entered the game leading the NFL in passing yards but was completely shut down by the Jets’ defense.

Houston’s only touchdown came after Wilson’s fumble.

The Jets sacked the Texans quarterbacks five times and the secondary blanketed the Houston receivers.

Special teams

Punter Thomas Morstead boomed punts in the first half that pinned the Texans inside their own 10 several times, giving the Jets the field-position advantage.

Morstead had three punts inside the 20 in the game.

Kicker Greg Zuerlein padded the lead with three fourth-quarter field goals.

Coaching

Give Robert Saleh credit.

He had the Jets ready to play after a crazy week that featured a controversy over him texting with Joe Benigno and the story about Zach Wilson being reluctant to play.

Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich had the defense ready to play and it completely shut down Stroud and the Texans’ offense.

Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett was aggressive to start the second half and the offense finally put up some points.
