A 10-year-old Texas girl was fatally struck by two cars in an after-school tragedy this week.
Liyah-Grace Holsey, of Arlington, was struck by two cars while attempting to cross a busy intersection around 4 p.m. after leaving school Thursday, the Fort Worth Star Telegram reported, citing police.
She died around 9 p.m. at Cook Children’s Medical Center, the outlet said.
The two drivers had a green light at the time of the accident, CBS News Texas added.
They stayed at the scene and cooperated with police, and no charges have been filed against them.
Holsey was a fifth-grade student at Mary Moore Elementary School, the school confirmed on Facebook.
“Liyah-Grace was a wonderful student who loved to sing so much that she joined the choir and never missed a practice. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten,” the school wrote.
Principal Wendy Baker told NBC5 that she was on the scene shortly after the accident.
“We had a parent who had driven by and saw that there was an accident that had happened not too far away from here,” she recalled.
Baker accompanied Holsey to the hospital, she said.
“I think when you find out any of your children — as a parent, or as a principal, you are devastated. It is the worst nightmare that you can imagine,” the principal lamented.
Some locals expressed concerns about the intersection where Holsey was struck, which is close to the school but too far to be considered part of the school zone.
“They run red lights. They don’t stop. They don’t care to stop. They just go,” resident Leslie Balboa told CBS News Texas.
“It’s not a very safe intersection. A lot of fast-moving cars, a lot of street-racing,” local Bryan Seely added to NBC5.
Seely said he has seen at least four crashes at the intersection in just a year and a half.
The Arlington Police Department did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for a comment.
