It’s typical to hear politicians lie. It almost seems to be one of the job requirements and some do it so much better than others. Hands down, no exceptions, the number one political liar of the day is President Barack Obama. I used to think Joe Biden was a strong second to Obama, but I’m beginning to think Sen. Harry Reid (D-UT) has edged out Biden.
Why? Because both of them are the most vocal Democrats concerning the federal spending bill.
Obama and Reid are blatantly telling the American public that the Republicans WANT to shut down the federal government. At the same time, both men are saying that they are unwilling to compromise on anything the Republicans send them and that it is the Democrat way or no way.
The truth is Republicans DON’T want to shut down the federal government. House Republicans are compromising on a plan that would delay the implementation of Obamacare for a year so as to work out the many drastic problems the program has already experienced. They are offering a plan that would fund the federal government through December and still pay our military in case of a shutdown.
A statement released by the House Republican leadership stated:
“The American people don’t want a government shutdown, and they don’t want Obamacare. We will do our job and send this bill over, and then it’s up to the Senate to pass it and stop a government shutdown.”
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) responded in anger when Democrats said that the House measure was doomed to failure, saying:
“How dare you presume a failure? We continue to believe there’s an opportunity for sensible compromise, and I will not accept from anybody the assumption of failure.”
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) also reacted to the Democrats accusations that the GOP wants to shut down the government, saying:
“It sounds like the Democrats here in Washington are obsessed with shutting down the government, and that’s all they talk about. I don’t know anyone who wants to shut down the government. The only thing we want to shut down is Obamacare.”
“The reason we want to shut down Obamacare is because of the harm it’s doing to the American middle class – the hard working people who get up in the morning and are working hard just to try to get ahead. Our entire lives we’ve been told that this is a country where if you work hard and you sacrifice you can get ahead and achieve a better life.”
“And those of us in elected office should be against anything that is an impediment to that dream, and Obamacare is an impediment to that dream.”
“Today we had an opportunity to do that, and sadly, a handful of our colleagues in the Democratic Party who come from states, quite frankly, where people do not support Obamacare, decided that party loyalty was more important than loyalty to the American middle class and the hard-working men and women of our country.”
It’s not the Republicans that want to shut down the government. All they want to do is not include Obamacare in the spending bill. Republicans aren’t the ones that are talking about a government shutdown. It’s obvious that Democrats are the ones that want to shut down the federal government and they want to do so to use it as a political tool against Republicans. In the past couple of years, we’ve seen a vast number of Americans that continually believe the Democrat’s lies because they are too lazy and too stupid to find out the truth for themselves.
