Edward Klein’s New Book Denounces the Benghazi Scandal

Edward Klein is the author of Blood Feud: the Clintons vs. the Obamas (2014) which has become number one on The New York Times bestseller list for several weeks. “The Benghazi Deception” in Chapter 20 and “The Full Ginsburg” in Chapter 21 of this magnificent book explained in great detail the sordid scandal in Benghazi that involved both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Below is a description of the alarming information presented in these chapters.

Klein explained that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was on her seventh floor office at the State Department on September 11, 2012 shortly after 4:00 P.M. when “an event that took place 5,205 miles away from Washington, D.C., that would throw American foreign policy into disarray, threaten Barack Obama’s chances for reelection, tarnish Hillary Clinton’s reputation, and really open all the old wounds between the Clintons and the Obamas.” That event was, of course, the terrorist attacks on the U.S. Special Mission Compound (Consulate) and the nearby CIA Annex in Benghazi, Libya.

Hillary Clinton’s chief of staff, Cheryl Mills, immediately informed her that the State Department Special Mission Compound was under attack by armed men. Two hours after the first alert, the Operations Center sent out a second notice stating that the safe room where the United States Ambassador to Libya J. Christopher Stevens was hiding had been set on fire by jihadists from Ansar al-Sharia, an al-Qaeda-linked terror group that had claimed credit for the attack.

Hillary Clinton and Barrack Obama committed criminal negligence for failing to provide adequate security at Benghazi

In the months before the terrorist attacks, Cheryl Mills and her deputy, Jake Sullivan, had made Secretary Clinton aware that the American mission was highly vulnerable to assault from the terrorist armed Islamic militiamen roaming the streets of Benghazi. Additionally, both Obama and Clinton had received briefings from the CIA and the State Department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research which clearly indicated a deterioration of the security in Benghazi. Numerous violent incidents had rocked Benghazi in the months leading to the attacks of the American diplomatic post and the nearby CIA Annex. Klein explained the following regarding terror attacks in Benghazi:

• “In April 2012, terrorists threw an explosive device at a convoy carrying United Nations envoy Ian Martin.

• In May 2012, a rocket-propelled grenade hit the offices of the International Red Cross.

• In June 2012, an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded outside the Consulate or Special Mission Compound blowing a hole in the perimeter wall…

• In June 2012, armed men affiliated with Ansar al-Sharia stormed the Tunisian Consulate in Benghazi.

• In June 2012, an abortive assassination attempt with rocket-propelled grenades on the life of British ambassador Sir Dominic Asquith prompted the United Kingdom to put its personnel out of Benghazi.

• Both M-16 in Britain and the Mossad in Israel alerted Washington that Ansar al-Sharia and other jihadi terror groups linked to al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) were operating in Benghazi…

• Ambassador Stevens himself had sent a flurry of diplomatic messages back to the State Department warning that security in Benghazi was practically nonexistent…

• On September 10, the day before the attack on the American Consulate (Special Mission Compound), al-Qaeda’s Ayman Al-Zawahiri, who had taken the place of the dead Osama bin Laden as the mastermind of al- Qaeda, released a video calling for the sons of Libya to avenge the CIA’s drone killings.”

Hillary Clinton, in spite of these alarming events, did not provide for security reinforcement in Benghazi. She incorrectly believed that the CIA, which under the president’s orders was operating an illegal gun-running operation from Libya to Turkey to Syria, would provide adequate backup security if the diplomatic compound came under terrorist attack. Klein pointed out that Secretary Clinton’s later statements that officials “at the assistant secretary level or below had failed to keep her informed about requests for beefed-up security at Benghazi diplomatic post were patently false.”
Klein wrote that Tom Donilon, the White House’s national security adviser gave Secretary Clinton periodic updates on September 11, 2012. Donilon told Clinton that the National Security Agency had intercepted electronic communications between Ansar al-Sharia and AQIM claiming that it was responsible for the terror attack.

Klein explained that at 5:41 P.M., Clinton called CIA director David Petraeus asking what the CIA agents on the ground where reporting from Benghazi. She also wanted to know why the CIA had failed to send reinforcements from its Annex in Benghazi to the diplomatic mission. Klein pointed out that of the 40 or so American officials stationed in Benghazi, only seven worked for the State Department. The consulate’s primary purpose was to provide cover for the CIA officials.

Klein pointed out that Secretary Clinton was fully aware of that the CIA was involved in an illegal clandestine transfer of weapons out of Eastern Libya, through Turkey, and into the hands of rebel groups trying to overthrow the regime of the dictator Bashar al-Assad in Syria. Many of these weapons were falling into the hands of al-Qaeda-linked terrorist organizations The secret gun-running operation was being done without the knowledge or consent of the United States Congress, whose intelligence committees were charged with exercising oversight of the CIA.

Klein reported that Pulitzer Prize winner and former The New York Times investigative reporter, Seymour M. Hersh, wrote in the London Review of Books the following: “The Obama administration has never publicly admitted to its role in creating what the CIA calls a rat line, a back channel highway into Syria. The rat line… was used to funnel weapons and ammunition from Libya via southern Turkey and across the Syrian border to the opposition. Many of those in Syria who ultimately received the weapons were jihadists, some of them affiliated with al-Qaeda.”

1400675779526.cachedWhy would Ambassador Christopher Stevens traveled to such a dangerous place as Benghazi on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks? Klein wrote that Stevens went to Benghazi to monitor the CIA’s arms transfer operation on the orders from Washington. In fact, on the afternoon of the day he was assassinated Ambassador Stevens was filmed talking to the Consul General of Turkey in front of the Special Mission Compound in Benghazi.
Tom Fitton’s Judicial Watch Special Investigative Report of January 2013 pointed out that Ambassador Stevens met with the Turkish Consul General Ali Sait Akin on the evening of the attack. The purpose of that meeting has not been disclosed. Some experts believe that the Ambassador’s work in Benghazi may have been related to the Obama administration’s efforts to transfer arms to Syrian opposition groups.

Frank Gaffney, former deputy assistant secretary of state, stated the following: “One of the places in Libya most awash with weapons in the most dangerous of hands is Benghazi. It now appears that Stevens was there on a particularly risky day, with no security to speak of and despite now copiously documented concerns about his own safety and that of his subordinates for another priority mission: sending arms recovered from the former regime’s stocks to the opposition in Syria.”

Judicial Watch wrote that the newspaper Times of London published an article on September 14, 2012, entitled “Syrian Rebels Squabble Over Weapons as Biggest Shipload Arrives from Libya.” The Times of London pointed out that the Libyan ship, The Intisaar or The Victory, arrived at the Turkish port of Iskenderun after leaving from Benghazi. It explained that “more than 400 tons of cargo arrived in Syria carrying SAM-7 surface-to-air anti-aircraft missiles and rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), which Syrian sources said could be a game changer for the rebels.” More than likely, Ambassador Stevens wanted to make sure that those weapons did not fall into the hands of jihadists in Syria.

Klein reported that Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu had complained to President Obama that the weapons being transferred by the CIA were ending up in the control of the Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon and the Hamas terrorist in the Gaza Strip. Israeli officials had noted that the Libyan weapons, including shoulder-fired SA-7 antiaircraft missiles, were also reaching the Gaza Strip, where one was fired at an Israeli helicopter for the first time.

It was quite obvious that Barack Obama’s illegal Middle Eastern gun-running operation without the knowledge of Congress or the American people was a complete disaster. I believe that Obama’s actions in Libya are grounds for impeachment.

Klein explained that at 8 P.M. on September 11, 2012, Secretary Clinton called Gregory Hicks, the Deputy Chief of Mission at the American Embassy in Tripoli and that her entire senior staff, including A. Elizabeth Jones, the Acting Assistant Secretary of State for the Near East, were on the phone when Gregory Hicks said that Ambassador Stevens was at a Benghazi hospital and presumed dead. His body could not be recovered, because the hospitals was surrounded by the jihadist militia.

Hicks said nothing about an anti-Muslim video or spontaneous protest demonstrations. Later he explained “we saw no demonstrations related to the video anywhere in Libya.” The next day, Assistant Secretary Elizabeth Jones sent out an email saying that Ansar al-Sharia was behind the attack on the diplomatic mission.

Secretary Clinton learned that Ambassador Stevens and Sean Smith, a State Department communication and computer operator specialist, were dead and that a well-coordinated terror assault was going on the CIA Annex which would later cost the life of Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods, two ex-Navy SEALs. Klein explained that around 10:00 P.M. Secretary Clinton received a phone call from President Barack Obama. She was very surprised when the president told her that he wanted her to say that the terrorist attacks had been a spontaneous demonstration brought about because an anti-Mohammed video.

According to Klein, Secretary Clinton told President Obama: “Mr. President, that story is not credible; among other things, it ignores the fact that the attack occur on 9/11. However, President Obama was adamant. He told Secretary Clinton “I need you to put out a State Department release as soon as possible.”

Hillary Clinton called her husband and told him what Obama wanted her to do. Bill Clinton said “that story won’t hold up.” Hillary said “I know, I told the president that.” “It’s an impossible story.”

Bill Clinton stated the following: “I can’t believe the president is claiming it wasn’t terrorism… It looks like Obama isn’t going to allow anyone to say that terrorism has occurred on his watch. Remember when he denied that the Fort Hood massacre was an act of terrorism… He called it an act of work place violence.”

Former President Clinton and his wife discussed the possibility of her resignation over this issue. If Hillary Clinton had resigned and told the American people that the president was asking her to lie and participate in a shameful cover-up for political reasons and also exposed the illegal gun-running weapons operation, Obama could have been defeated in 2012. Moreover, impeachment charges would have been avoided since the traitor in the White House had only a few more months left of his disastrous first term. Hillary Clinton would have gone in history as a honest, brave, and courageous secretary of state.

Unfortunately, she decided to lie and participate on the cover-up. Bill and Hillary Clinton decided that resignation wasn’t a realistic option. For one thing, Secretary Clinton was aware of the CIA’s illegal weapons shipment in Benghazi and she had provided the CIA with its cover. She was an accomplice. Hillary Clinton had failed to provide increased security in spite of the frequent requests made by Ambassador Stevens. The Clintons realized that her political future as well as Obama’s hung in the balance. So she complied with the president’s request and repeatedly lied to the American people and Congress and participated in the outrageous cover-up.

When the bodies of ambassador Stevens and the three other Americans assassinated in Benghazi arrived at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington, D.C., Secretary Clinton, in front of President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, stated the following: “We’ve seen rage and violence directed at American embassies over an awful Internet video that we had nothing to do with. It is hard for the American people to make sense of that, because it is senseless and totally unacceptable.” After the ceremony, Secretary Clinton approached Charles Woods, whose son, former Navy seal Tyrone Woods, died in Benghazi and said “we’re gonna go out and we’re are gonna prosecute that person that made the video.” This deliberate lie to a family member was completely unnecessary.

The White House cover-up

We now know that the State Department and the White House rewrote the talking points that were used by United Nation Ambassador Susan Rice who was sent by Obama, after Secretary Clinton refused to go, to provide misinformation on five Sunday television appearances.

Speaker of the House of Representative John Boehner decided to create the Select Committee on Benghazi after a lawsuit by Judicial Watch forced the release of an email that had been sent from President Obama’s national security advisor Ben Rhodes to United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice in the days following the attack. In that email Rhodes advised Rice to stick to blaming the attack on the anti-Muslim video in the upcoming appearances on five Sunday television talk shows.

President Obama and Ben Rhodes, as well as the rest of the officials in his administration in the White House, Central Intelligence Agency, FBI, State Department, and Defense Department, were fully aware that the premeditated terrorist attacks at Benghazi had nothing to do a video. The White House decided to mislead the nation once again.

After Obama’s 5 1/2 years in office, the American people are fully aware that they have a pathological liar sitting in the White House. The president has lost his credibility in America and abroad. He is not trusted by our allies nor feared by our enemies. Thanks to Obama we are a Superpower in retreat. That is why my new book is called America in Decline (2014).

Speaker Boehner stated “a line was crossed” when new information was discovered that pointed out the White House involvement in misguiding the American people in the talking points used by former United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice on five Sunday television shows.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke and continue to speak on national television about the “fog of war.” Together with Obama, Clinton deliberately lied to the family members of the four brave Americans who were assassinated by terrorists in Benghazi. Administration officials knowingly lied by stating that the CIA intelligence indicated that the attack in Libya was due to a video. When Secretary Clinton was testifying in Congress, she became very angry when Republicans keep asking her about Benghazi. Clinton pounded the table and yelled “What’s difference does make?” It makes all the difference in the world since lying to Congress is a felony. President Obama and Secretary Clinton should be held accountable for their actions.

When Republicans began attacking President Obama for the events at Benghazi, the president made matters worse by repeating the lie about the video. Edward Klein explained the following regarding many lies repeated by President Obama:

• On September 18, 2012 Obama appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman and said that “extremists and terrorists used the anti-Muslim YouTube video as an excuse to attack a variety of our embassies.”

• On September 20, 2012 Obama appeared at a Univision town hall and said that the “natural protests that arose because of the outrage over the video were used as an excuse by extremists to see if they can also directly harm U.S. interests.”

• On September 25, 2012 Obama addressed the United Nations General Assembly and referred to “a crude and disgusting video that’s sparked outrage throughout the Muslim world… There is no video that justifies an attack on an embassy.”

It was not until September 27, 2012, more than two weeks after the Benghazi terror attacks that the Obama administration admitted, at last, what had really happened. It was, as the President of Libya said from the very beginning, a well-planned and premeditated terrorist attack.

The mainstream media, as usual, protected President Obama by suppressing the truth about Benghazi and once again, did not expose the Liar-in-Chief in the White House and failed to hold him accountable. The mainstream media has constantly failed the American people by giving this president multiple free passes on his errors and crimes.

Why did the White House engaged in lies and cover-ups on Benghazi?

The Obama administration officials, as well as the president, blamed the terrorist attacks in Benghazi on a video for more than two weeks since Barack Obama was campaigning for reelection stating that he had defeated al-Qaeda. The attack at Benghazi contradicted his speeches over his victory over al-Qaeda. The president was well aware that al-Qaeda, rather than being defeated, was getting stronger in Africa and the Middle East.
Until the terrorist attacks in Benghazi, Obama was campaigning on the fact that he was the one who killed Osama bin Laden. Obama could not run on his terrible record of improving the economy nor on passing Obamacare which was highly unpopular, thus he kept on speaking on the campaign trail how he had “decimated” al-Qaeda and that it “was on its heels.”

Vice President Joe Biden kept repeating the following: “You want to know whether we are better off? Osama bin Laden is dead and General Motors is alive.” Both President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden knew that they were lying. Al-Qaeda was growing in Africa and the Middle East and represented a growing threat to American interests in the world and to our national security.

Klein reported that The Washington Times explained in an article the following: “Top U.S. officials, including the president, were told in the summer and fall of 2012 that al-Qaeda’s African offshoots were gaining money, lethal knowledge and a mounting determination to strike U.S. and Western interests. The gulf between the classified briefings and Mr. Obama’s rosy pronouncements on the campaign trail touched off a closed-door debate inside intelligence community about whether the terrorist group’s demise was being overstated for political reasons.”

Klein pointed out that with less than two months to go to presidential election day, White House presidential assistant David Plouffe was now effectively in control on both domestic and foreign policy in the White House. Politics was all that was important as far as Plouffe and Obama were concerned. David Axelrod and Jim Messina at Obama’s campaign headquarters in Chicago, also realized that Benghazi was “a menace of the first order.”

The two most powerful arguments for the reelection of the president were 1) by killing Osama bin Laden Obama had won the War on Terror and 2) by refusing to get involved in Syria, Obama had kept the United States out over another war in the Middle East. All of them believed that if the truth about Benghazi became known, it would blow both of those arguments out of the water.

One thing that was not discussed in Edward Klein´s Blood Feud: the Clintons vs. the Obamas (2014) was how President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had committed treason in Libya. As explained in Roger Aronoff’s Citizens’ Commission on Benghazi Interim Report entitled “How America Switched Sides in the War on Terror” of April 2014, the United States supported the Libyan Muslim Brotherhood and al-Qaeda- linked organizations in the overthrow of Muammar Qaddafi in Libya.

This is a summary of the alarming findings of the Citizens’ Commission on Benghazi:

“1) The war in Libya was unnecessary, served no articulable U.S. national security objective, and led to preventable chaos region-wide. In the period since 2011 revolution in Libya, the country has remained fragmented, poorly governed, and overrun with violent militias, the majority of which are jihadist al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) affiliates. Yet, at the time of his overthrow, Muammar Qaddafi was an ally of the United States in the Global War on Terror.

On March 17, 2011 the United Nations Security Council passed resolution 1973 for a “No Fly Zone,” and record ostensibly to protect Libyan civilians caught up in the hostilities between the Libyan government forces and the rebel forces, which were dominated by the Libyan Muslim Brotherhood and al Qaeda. The following day in London, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced U.S. government support for the Muslim Brotherhood-led Libyan Transitional National Council (TNC) in its revolt against Qaddafi.”

The commission found out that the civil war in Libya could have been avoided and would have saved thousands of lives and the enormous turmoil that followed the fall of the dictator Muammar Qaddafi. After a few days of the Obama administration declaration that the United States would support the Libyan rebels, Qaddafi wanted to enter negotiations to discuss his possible abdication and exile.

On March 20, 2011 General Abdulqader Yusef Dibri, head of personal security of Qaddafi, contacted Rear Admiral (Ret.) Chuck Kubic. Upon receiving this information, Rear Admiral Kubic telephoned Lieutenant Colonel Brian Linvill in Stuttgart, Germany, the U.S. AFRICOM officer point of contact for all military matters involving Libya.

Lieutenant Colonel Linvill immediately notified the head of AFRICOM, General Carter Ham, stating that the Libyan dictator was ready to establish communication with the Africa military command. General Ham was quite interested. However, the Obama administration did not give permission to General Ham to proceed with the negotiations.

The opportunity for a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Libya did not interest President Obama. The war continued and tens of thousands of lives were lost unnecessarily.

It was absolutely appalling that the White House and the State Department did not even consider entering into negotiations with Qaddafi to avoid bloodshed since President Obama and Secretary Clinton wanted to pursue the unconstitutional and unnecessary war in Libya supporting the Muslim Brotherhood and the al-Qaeda-linked rebels. Both Obama and Clinton need to explain to the American people and to Congress why both of them wanted to empower jihadists and the Muslim Brotherhood in Libya which went against the national security interest of our nation.

“2) Changing sides in the War on Terror: Even more disturbingly, the United States was fully aware of and facilitating the delivery of weapons to the al-Qaeda-dominated rebel militias throughout the 2011 rebellion. The jihadist agenda of AQIM, the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, and other Islamic terror groups represented among the rebel forces was well known to U.S. officials responsible for Libya policy.

The rebels made no secret of their al-Qaeda affiliation, openly flying and speaking in front of the black flag of Islamic Jihad, according to author John Rosenthal and multiple media reports. And yet, the White House and senior Congressional members deliberately and knowingly pursued a policy that provided material support to terrorist organizations in order to topple a ruler who had been working closely with the West actively to suppress al- Qaeda. The result in Libya, across much of North Africa, and beyond has been utter chaos, disruption of Libya’s oil industry, the spread of dangerous weapons (including surface-to-air missiles), and the empowerment of jihadist organizations like al- Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood.”

“3) The weapons flow: An American citizen source trusted by the Citizens Commission on Benghazi who has long experience in the Middle East described the flow of weapons from Qatar to the Libyan rebels and the diversion of some of those arms. After Qaddafi’s regime had been ousted, a delegation from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) traveled to Libya to collect payment for the weapons that the UAE had financed and Qatar had delivered to the Transitional National Council (TNC) during the war.

During their visit to Tripoli, the UAE officials discovered that half of the $1 billion worth of weapons it had financed for the rebels had, in fact, been diverted by Mustafa Abdul Jalil, the Muslim Brotherhood head of the Libyan TNC, and sold to Qaddafi. Furthermore, according to information learned during the UAE visit to Tripoli, when Jalil learned that Major General Abdel Fatah Younis, Qaddafi’s former Minister of the Interior before his late February 2011 defection to the rebel forces, had found out about the weapons diversion, he ordered Abu Salim Abu Khattala… to kill him. Abu Khattala, later identified as the Ansar al-Shariah commander who led the September 11, 2012 attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, accepted the order and directed the killing of General Abdel Fatah Younis in July 2011.

The key significance of this episode is a demonstration of a military chain-of-command relationship between the Libyan Muslim Brotherhood leadership of the TNC and the al-Qaeda-affiliated militia (Ansar al-Shariah) that has been named responsible for the attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi. Ahmed Abu Khattala is under a Department of Justice sealed indictment. His brigade merged into Ansar al-Shariah in 2012, and he was positively identified to the FBI in a cell-phone photo from the scene of the attack.”

On June 15, 2014, Ahmed Abu Khattala was captured south of Benghazi by a U.S. Special Forces and he is in a prison waiting for a trial. His capture marks the first time the United States has caught one of the suspects in the 2012 assault on Benghazi. Khattala’s capture came 642 days after he led the attack that killed the four Americans. Yet no other terrorists has been captured in Libya. Is it because they were allies of President Obama?
Conclusion

Edward Klein’s new book offers additional insights on Benghazi, the cover-up, and the gun-running operation from Libya to Turkey to Syria. All of these actions by President Obama are impeachable offenses.

How could President Obama and former Secretary Clinton get away with supporting the Muslim Brotherhood and al-Qaeda-linked terrorists organizations in Libya and in Syria and violating the Patriot Act and other laws in our nation? How could they get away for engaging in a Middle Eastern gun-running operation and sending tons of weapons from Libya to Turkey to Syria and many of those weapons falling into the hands of al-Qaida-linked terror organizations? How could they escape prosecution for their cover-up and lies to Congress and the American people?
The Select Committee needs to investigate not only the terrorist attacks in Benghazi but also the Obama administration assistance to the Libyan Muslim Brotherhood and jihadists during the civil war in Libya. The Select Committee needs to investigate the White House cover-up with Muslim Brotherhood organizations in the United States and Muslim nations in the world. Lastly, the Select Committee needs to investigate the Obama administration training terrorists from al Qaeda in Syria and Iraq at a secret base in Jordan and whether they also received weapons sent from Libya to Turkey to Syria that assisted them to expand their caliphate.

President Obama entered into a war in Libya violating the Constitution since Congress did not authorize it. Later Obama had been engaged in a Middle Eastern gun-running operation without Congressional authority and in violation of United States laws.

The president violated his oath of office and multiple laws by sending weapons to and working with terrorist groups during the civil war in Libya. He continued to violate laws by later sending weapons from Libya to Turkey knowing that those weapons would eventually fall into the hands of al-Qaeda-linked terrorist groups fighting in Libya. Moreover, Obama worked with the Muslim Brotherhood in the United States and Muslim nations to engage in a cover-up. This is astounding and alarming. President Obama is a traitor who should be impeached by the House of Representatives and prosecuted by the Senate.

President Obama committed treason, dereliction of duty, and criminal negligence in Libya during the civil war against Qaddafi and for his refusal to save our diplomats and Navy SEALs in Benghazi. President Barack Obama is unfit to be our commander-in-chief and must be impeached by the House of Representatives and the Senate must hold a trial.
