Continuing Democrats’ mischaracterization of the GOP tax plan, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi dismissed the bonuses some companies are giving their employees, thanks to lower tax rates. Pelosi — who is one of Congress’s richest members — called the payments “crumbs” and “pathetic.”
In a press conference Thursday, the Representative worth $30 million said:
âA number of bonuses â one of the bonuses was in a union contract and then they added a little more money to that. That same firm just told the employees they were going to be laying off 1,500 people and if they wanted to save their jobs, they could work 32 hours.”
Pelosi then took a particularly leftist approach — she tried to minimize the value of the money received by workers by contrasting it with the revenue of the evil corporations:
In terms of the bonus that corporate America receives versus the crumbs they are giving to workers to put the schmooze on is so pathetic. And I would hope with their big advantage of bringing home at a very low rate that they would invest in infrastructure and things, but our experience has been that they will do dividends, do stock buy-backs, and things like that…It is insignificant.â
According to a list from Americans for Tax Reform, more than two million people have received those “pathetic crumbs,” with funds reaching as high as $3000 per person. Furthermore, companies including Wells Fargo and Walmart recently announced that they will increase their starting hourly wage, thanks to the Republican-led bill.
Additionally, more than 80 percent of American workers will see a reduction in their taxes, courtesy of the Grand Ole Party. Conversely, Pelosi predicted the result of the tax bill would be “Armageddon.”
