Common Core: Socialists are Coming for Your Kids

Last week I had breakfast with two ladies and another gentleman and during our time together we began discussing all the sad truths of what is happening in this great Country of ours. You know, all the scandals, lies, conspiracies, hardships, broken promises, greed and dismay, as well as what we all thought the reason for all of this was and why we thought that. It really was a good discussion.

These two ladies both home school their children even though one of them is a former public school teacher and, for many years, was against home schooling. This is something my wife and I have discussed doing ourselves in the past, but just never took any action towards that thought, so I had to ask them why they decided to home school, especially since one of them was against it for so long. The answer, and where our discussion went from there, was very enlightening for me. This is where the new Federal Common Core curriculum came to my attention for the very first time. It never ceases to amaze me at what you will find in the rabbit hole anymore.

Now, if you are not aware of the Common Core curriculum that our Public Schools, Nationwide, have been given to teach our children, this may be quite the eye opener for you, as it was for me, and since that day when it came up, it seems like every time I turn around I see something about it on TV, online, in the paper etc. It’s like when you buy a new car, and it’s one you have never seen before, but after you buy it you start seeing them everywhere. Same thing here.

I started to do some homework on this topic, Common Core, and some of the things I found were quite interesting and upsetting to me. Just the name alone speaks volumes as far as I am concerned. Common Core? Who want their children to be common to the core? Not me! In short, in my honest opinion, it is Socialism at its finest being taught at a level where human beings are most influenced, grade school. It seems that Common Core teaches our children about Economic Fairness and Equality by promoting Unions and protests and using Historical figures like Caesar Chavez as an example of greatness and that Business Owners and land owners are evil and greedy. The example that one of the ladies I had breakfast with gave me of the types of questions being asked to our children was…If four people needed medical attention to survive (and gave the specifics of each person’s situation individually) but there was only enough money to help 3 of them, which three would you help and why? This, ladies and gentleman, is what’s known as a Death Panel, which, by the way, Canada just implemented as a Law to assist in their socialized, single-payer, health Care system.

Additionally, the way they are teaching math now is very confusing and difficult, not in any way even close to how you and I learned to Add, Subtract, Multiply and Divide. My daughter, who is now in 6th Grade, went through this just a couple of years back and I remember then thinking to myself, what is this all about? However, I was unaware of the Common Core curriculum at the time. While we are being told it is to better them down the road, many seem to be arguing that it actually puts them farther behind in the Middle School years. I spoke with another Teacher yesterday that agreed that it does hinder our children in the 5th, 6th and 7th grade years but will beneficial later on when they are doing Algebra and Calculus and such but I am not so sure about that. I guess I will see first-hand as my daughter gets there, provided we decide to keep her in Public School.

Then yesterday, my wife and I had a meeting with our daughter’s Teacher to attend. As we were sitting in the hallway waiting for our turn to meet with her teachers, I noticed a display on the door of my daughter’s math class and having been recently studying this Common Core program, I have to tell you, I found it to be very disturbing. Below is a picture that I took of this display that all the 6th Graders in her school are currently looking at every day. Day in and day out. To be fair, I think this Teacher meant it in a harmless way (at least I hope she did and I choose to believe that at this moment) but even still, I couldn’t help but feel a little more than concerned about it after looking into the Common Core and understanding it better. I share this with you because I would truly like to know what your opinion of this display is. There is no wrong or right answer and I do hope you will comment with your thoughts.

At the end of the day, the more I look at and come to understand what Common Core is teaching our, my, children, the more I do not like it. I think it is way to liberal and socialist based and with my current opinion of our Government and what they currently stand for and are doing, it does not even surprise me but it does concern me and is enough of a concern that I feel like we are going to have to make some serious decisions based on our own beliefs, which happen to be that it is okay to want and desire more. It is okay to go after the best life has to offer. It is okay to not be COMMON and you should never settle for anything less than you are capable of being or doing. Money is NOT the root of all evil, but rather the love of money and what you do with the money that can be evil.

In closing, I hope this has been intriguing enough for you to look into this for yourself. I chose not to link to anything in this article because I don’t want to lead anyone to things that may get you thinking the way I do. I would rather you find things on your own so you can draw your own conclusions and opinions but I do hope, again, that you will make it a higher priority to look at what I have discussed here today and I truly hope you will comment below with your thoughts and opinions of the display photographed above.
