Family members of two of the four Americans murdered during the Sept. 11, 2012 attacks in Benghazi had harsh words for Hillary Clinton following her testimony in front of the House Select Committee on Benghazi on Thursday.
In an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Kate Quigley, the sister of CIA contractor Glen Doherty, recalled a meeting she and her family had with Clinton at Andrews Air Force Base three days after the terrorist attack in which the then-secretary of state said that the onslaught started as a spontaneous protest.
“She spoke to my family about how sad we should feel for the Libyan people because they’re uneducated, and that breeds fear which breeds violence and leads to a protest,” Quigley recalled.
But as was made clear in Thursday’s hearing, Clinton knew even before the attacks were finished that terrorists with links to al-Qaeda were involved. Clinton emailed her daughter Chelsea stating that terrorists were involved. She relayed the same information to the president of Libya and the prime minister of Egypt in conversations in the day or two after the attack. But despite privately stating that terrorists were involved in the attack, Clinton parsed her words in public. And many others in the Obama administration outright tied the motive for the attacks on a YouTube video.

“It was very strange, and I thought about it and never spoke about for a long time,” Quigley said of her interaction with Clinton.
She did acknowledge that Clinton “did a fairly good job answering some of the questions” she was asked Thursday. But “as expected, “a lot of the real answers that we’re looking for were kind of brushed off,” Quigley said.
Several times during Thursday’s hearing, Clinton spoke in somber tones about the murdered Americans. She also accused Republicans of exploiting their deaths and the pain of their families for political gain. But as Quigley’s comments show, the families have many more questions for Clinton and the Obama administration that they do for the Benghazi Committee, which is led by South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy .
The uncle of State Department information officer Sean Smith, Michael Ingmire, held that same view.
“Hillary Clinton is a serial liar,” he told Fox News’ Sean Hannity. “Hillary Clinton really has a difficult time maintaining a consistent level of truth and that was proven today and it’s been proven before.”
“I think Hillary Clinton should really think about resigning from ever running for any public office at this point. She’s incompetent.”
Hannity pointed to one exchange during Thursday’s hearing in which Republicans on the committee noted that Ambassador Chris Stevens and others in the U.S. diplomatic contingency in Libya made more than 600 requests for additional security in the war-torn country.
Asked if he blames the U.S. government for failing to provide support, Ingmire responded, “absolutely.”
“I blame them for instituting an illegal regime change, for running guns, for lying about it, for not protecting our people — that’s the first rule of thumb for military protocol,” he said.
“It’s just horrific that we have this woman and this current president running this fiasco,” he continued.
“What a sham.”
